Beginning July 12th, Africa Fashion Week NY presented an array of designers dedicated to the African Diaspora and the shows were filled with energy!
Africa Fashion Week NY has been held over the last few years to shed more light on the African Fashion Talent in NYC and the shows did not disappoint. Produced and founded by boutique sized event production company Adirée, Africa Fashion Week featured over twenty-one designers from African and of those of African Diaspora in the elegant Broad Street Ballroom. The melee of any runway show was not missed on the talented fashion artisans who graced the runway with their designs for an audience of influential media types, fashion and beauty notables, photographers and simple fans of the various collections.
Hailing from African lands such as Cameroon, Ethipoia, Uganda, Ghana and Rwanda, the juxtaposed pieces ran the gamut of classic tribal motifs to luscious leathers to ethereal chiffons to an amazed glitterati. Francis Hendy, Mafi, Vanessa Mukasa and Korto Momolu were amongst the plethora of designers which made for an amazing three-day series of shows that left an awe-inspiring thought for all able to attend Africa Fashion Week NY 2012.
